Ever since I started taking ceramics freshman year, I have been unable to go to any restaurant without admiring the dinnerware. I immediately look at the shape of the plates or the craftsmanship of the bowls. I especially look at the glazes that are used. I was recently at a restaurant where the plates had a speckled design. I instantly knew that I wanted to recreate their unique beauty through my own personal lens. The process was a little more complex than expected, as I had to use a different clay than the all-white clay we are provided in class. Through the process of using my own clay, I learned how to recycle and reuse the clay. I was so excited to see the results of my pieces and loved the way they turned out. I am so grateful for the opportunity I had to use my own clay and create my dream set for the art show.
